How To Prevent Acne From Face Coverings

Today’s question comes from Malia on Facebook:

“How can I prevent acne from wearing a mask?”

I’ve tried a wide variety of masks from hospital, to fashion and luxury.

The first thing to note about masks on your face is the material:

  • Natural materials are best both for your skin and for virus blocking. Synthetics are canceled.

  • Ice ❄️ A technique I just picked up from my Esthetician friend Kenna @skincarebykennamarie (who always has great instagram stories with skin care tips) is to use ice! On areas where you already know the break out’s coming, you can preemptively shrink would-be pimples, and speed up healing time for existing break outs by giving a very gentle ice massage.

  • Change Out Frequently. The dark, warm, moist environment the mask creates on your face is the perfect breeding ground for bacteria - which causes acne. The more often you change out the covering for a clean one - the less chance for developing the nastiness. Soiled reusable masks should go in the washing machine.

  • Perfect The Basics. Make sure your everyday skin routine is on point - if you need help with that - look at The Dewy Look post. Make sure to double cleanse after wearing makeup, and use a toner with salicylic acid.

The brand I recommend for masks is called Soft Rock Goods.
Their masks have ties - allowing for a perfect snug and comfortable fit every time.
They also have a hefty metal nose bar that can be shaped to your face. It prevents glasses and shields from fogging and gives you a more secure virus stopper.

If you’ve been economically effected by the pandemic, you can apply for a low cost or free mask on their website! You can also donate to a fund that will provide free and low cost masks to others!
Love it!
